The nail-biting extra-inning clash where the Dodgers beat the Toronto Blue Jays by one run attracted a combined 51 million viewers in the United States, Canadian, and Japanese territories. MLB announced this marks the most-watched World Series finale since the 1991 showdown between the Minnesota Twins and Atlanta Braves.

Broadcast Viewership Details

The Saturday memorable contest drew 27.33M viewers on Fox channels, Fox Deportes and their streaming platforms. Per Nielsen, it was the second highest-rated broadcast of the previous week.

It additionally stands as the most-watched Fall Classic matchup after the 2017 edition Game 7 between the Los Angeles Dodgers and Astros, which averaged over 29 million. This marks a sixteen percent increase compared to the previous Game 7 featuring the Washington Nationals and Houston Astros, which drew 23.19 million viewers.

In the weekly rankings, the sixth game ranked 4th, the fourth game was 7th, Game 5 came in eighth, and Game 3 landed in thirteenth position.

Global Viewership Figures

In the Canadian market, the game drew over 11 million watchers on Sportsnet and the French TVA Sports. This made it the most-watched English broadcast in the country after the 2010 Winter Olympics.

In Japan, where the deciding game started at 9 PM local time, it attracted 12 million. This followed the previous Friday’s Game 6 – in which World Series MVP Yoshinobu Yamamoto gave up one run in six innings – averaged 13.1M viewers, making it the most-watched Fall Classic matchup on a sole broadcaster in Japan.

Overall Averages and Trends

The full seven-game series drew 15.71 million viewers on Fox, a 2% rise from the previous year’s Dodgers-Yankees series. This represents the first time after 2015 and ‘16 that the Fall Classic has seen audience growth for two straight seasons.

Counting the opening game broadcast on the Univision network, the total US viewership reached 16.1 million. The overall World Series average in the Japanese market was 9.7 million and 8.1 million in the Canadian market.

The complete playoffs on Fox, FS1 and FS2 averaged 8.09 million viewers, an 8% increase compared to the previous year and the network’s strongest postseason performance after 2017.

MLB announced that the Fall Classic was broadcast in 203 countries and territories by forty-four media partners in sixteen different tongues.
